NEUROMANCER HELP FILE
=====================
****************************
* Compiled by Huey Marinuk *
****************************
Well everybody, here is just about everything you will need for the amazing
game NEUROMANCER by Interplay Productions (Amiga version... I don't know if
these will work for other (inferior) versions).
Anyways, the first page, called 'DataBase Notes', contains information in
the same format used in the back of the manual for information found in
databases in the 'real world': the database name, the link code, the passwords
in order of security level, the number of security levels, and any IMPORTANT
information or software that is available at the highest 'real world' level.
You will note that many databases will show, say, 3 levels, but only list 2
passwords. This is because the next level, in this case, the third level, can
ONLY be accessed from Cyberspace.
The next page, called 'Cyberspace Notes', contains information in the same
format used in the back of the manual for information found in cyberspace-level
databases: the database name, the zone number, the zone coordinates, and any
IMPORTANT information you will need for that SPECIFIC database. In the 'Notes'
column, you will note, first, either a strange name and a skill chip name, or
'None -'. What this means is that if there is no AI in that database, the
entry 'None -' will appear. If ther IS an AI, on the other hand, its name and
weakness will be listed. For example, the World Chess database is in zone 0,
coordinates 160x80, with an AI named Morphy who's weakness is the Logic skill
chip.
Immediately after the Cyberspace notes is a listing of the zone numbers and
where to find the Cyberjack to gain access to that zone, and the strengths of
the ICE withen each zone. Note that the higher the zone number, the harder the
ICE, and the harder it is to break in.
Next, a list of all the skill chips or upgrades and where to get them. For
example, you may see the CopTalk chip level one listed, located at MicroSofts.
Then you will see CopTalk level 2 UPGRADE listed available at the S.E.A with
level 2 access, then CopTalk level 4 UPGRADE listed available at the S.E.A.
with level 3 access (Cyberspace).
The rest are things like all possible keywords for any possible
conversations that involve typing, such as 'Tell me about...' and available
software. These are all pretty much self-explanitory.
Some important notes:
* your BAMA number is 056306118
- Never pay for lawyer fees if you are arrested. You are ALWAYS found guilty
- read all messages on databases and the PAX BBS; even the ones not for you
- DO NOT respond to the message from Armitage on the PAX BBS concerning the
instant credits until you do the following:
1) gain level 2 access to the Tactical Police database
2) EDIT the warrant list so that all names/BAMA numbers are erased (one of
them is Armitage's real name, I gather)
3) change ONE of the names and respective BAMA # to Larry's (see Database
Notes) AFTER, and only AFTER you have purchased the CopTalk chip from
(but only if you want the chip)
-1-
- to attain the Sense/Net security pass, you must have first done the above.
Then, when you go into MicroSoft, the back door will open and you can go in.
You can buy the pass from him fro $4000 (I think), get a Gemeinschaft bank
account number (see DataBase notes), and the Evasion skill chip
- Get more money (about $12000 each week, for 2 weeks) from Hosaka by adding
your name to their employee list and going into the building. (By the way,
after you do this, you can now tell the computer at the main gate that you
are an employee for HOSAKA, instead of a volunteer for Hitachi)
* The ROM Construct number requested by the Sense/Net computer is 0467839
* When on Freeside, if you enter Bank Gemeinschaft, you will be demanded for a
security code (there is NO backing out!). This code is BG1066
- not all software can be downloaded no matter what kind of deck you have
- when in the Free Matrix database, DON'T download the Blammo program. It
back-fires when you use it, so don't say I didn't warn you!
- maybe this is just a bug in the program, but it seems to me that if I use a
virus program to help break the ICE, and I gain acces to it at the last
second (that's about the only time I can break ICE that thick), then the
menus are all screwed up. But, maybe it's a result of the virus... I don't
know!
- never, EVER do battle with an AI unless you have a) enough practise/skill
b) the Evasion skill chip
- use the Easy Rider software to gain access to ANY cyberspace zone from ANY
cyberjack, no matter where it is located
- the Sequencer software is the only way to gain access to the Bank of Zurich
and Central Justice databases from the 'real world'
- try to avoid selling your body parts if you can (see below)
- explore and have fun!
There are some more things that I might have mentioned, but they are already
found in the manual, and I hate redundancy.
Well, I hope you find this useful. I have included as much as I could, even
some things that you may never need! Just remember that by using this file, if
you haven't gathered the data yourself, you will be cheating!
There is a way to edit a saved game to give yourself more money (playing it
safe, you'll get over $65000 each time!). Go into the saved game file with
DiskX, advance to the NEXT block and go down to the row number 50 (in hex).
EDIT this 2-byte WORD with a HEX value to your liking. NOTE: When you do
this, you will be presented with a maximum of 8 bytes, since it is a LONGWORD
(technical talk). ONLY USE THE FIRST 4! The last 4 (zero's, I think), cannot
(?) be changed! For maximum money, change those first 4 bytes to FFFF for over
$65000.
If you find something, by some strange chance, that I have omitted (perhaps
by accident), or have any questions, I can be found at Kickstart BBS
(416-279-0907) or Amiga Exchange (416-271-9795... anyone know if this one is
still up??). Also, as a final tip, the game follows VERY closely to the
original novel; that's where I got the Gemeinschaft security number from!
Bye for now, and have fun!

P.S.: If anyone in the computer industry is reading, I have my diploma in
Computer Programming for Business from DeVRY and am an artist (i.e. I would
like to get into computer animation/graphics/special effects). I can be
reached at (416)-747-8519 if you are interested.
